Computer Viruses
So what's the big deal about viruses?
What do you keep on your computer? Maybe some family photos, your personal accounts, or letters and reports. What would you do if everything was wiped out in an instant? This could happen with a computer virus.
A virus is a piece of malicious code, designed to self replicate and infiltrate your computer. Some create harmless pranks, but others can cause irreperable damage.
Protecting your computer
The most effective way of stopping a virus is to invest in some anti-virus software. This will scan your computer for you on a regular basis. If it finds a virus it will alert you and attempt to remove it before it causes damage. It is important that you keep it up to date as new viruses are released every day.
Be aware
Ignorance may be bliss, but knowledge could save you a lot of problems. If you know what the latest virus is called, or how it disguises itself in an email, you will be able to avoid letting it into your computer. There are a number of anti-virus websites available which publish information on current viruses and virus hoaxes.
