Payment Protection Insurance

Sometimes life can take an unexpected turn. And if your salary stopped because of an accident, sickness or unemployment you don’t want the added stress of not being able to make your mortgage repayments. With Mortgage Payment Protection your payments are taken care of for up to twelve months, so you can concentrate on getting well or finding a new job.

How Mortgage Payment Protection works for you

Underwritten by AXA Insurance UK plc, Britannia’s Mortgage Protection Insurance will cover your mortgage payments for up to 12 months, after a 60 day deferment period. Please note that for Unemployment cover, no benefit will be paid on claims within 90 days of the policy being taken out.

Insurance Features & Benefits

  • Maximum monthly payout is £2,500
  • Pay by monthly Direct Debit at no extra cost
  • You don’t have to have a Britannia mortgage
  • Available to anyone over 18 and under 85 (if you have a Britannia mortgage)
  • Available to anyone over 18 and under 65 (if your mortgage is with someone else)
  • Choose Accident and Sickness cover, Unemployment cover or complete cover for Accident, Sickness and Unemployment. Exclusions apply.
  • Paid monthly for up to 12 months or until you return to work (whichever is sooner) following the 60 day deferment period which is the time between the incident date of the claim and when payment protection is payable
  • If you move or remortgage, take your Payment Protection policy with you
  • With Unemployment cover and Accident, Sickness and Unemployment cover - JobStart helps you get back to work with a full assistance programme which includes a comprehensive job search manual, help preparing your CV, free expert advice and access to a job vacancy database
  • With Accident and sickness cover and Accident, Sickness and Unemployment cover you receive dedicated support from a medically qualified, disability management team

Who can apply for Britannia's Payment Protection?

You are eligible for this insurance provided that, at the inception date, you:

  • are aged 18 or over and under 85 and have an agreement with us; or
  • are aged 18 or over and under 65 and have an agreement with an alternative lender; and,
  • live in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man;
  • are working in employment or self-employment in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man and have been so continuously for at least the previous 6 months at the date of your application (if you are on holiday or are on statutory maternity leave from your employment, you will still meet this condition).

Important Notes on Limitations that may affect your ability to claim:
If at the inception date, you have been notified that you are at risk of being made unemployed, or you have been notified that you will become unemployed, we will not pay any claim for that period of unemployment. Unemployment Qualification Period
If you become unemployed, have been notified that you are at risk of being made unemployed, or have been notified that you will become unemployed within 90 days of the inception date, we will not pay any claim for that period of unemployment.

Self-Employed
If you are self-employed, your business must have ceased to trade before you will be
entitled to claim unemployment benefit (please refer to the meaning of “Ceased to
trade” in Section 2 – Definitions)
